Belize

Welcome to Belize! How not to love this country? Its only drawback is to rely even that modest infrastructure. If you are open to adventure, you will adore this welcoming country, isolated, beautiful, proud, poor and confident in the future, which offers besides its beautiful dive sites, spectacular Mayan ruins and beautiful rainforests.

Framed in the south and to the west by its Spanish-speaking neighbors and to the east by the Caribbean, the youngest Central American nation offers an incommensurable cultural mix in this region of the world - Maya, Mestizo, Garifuna, Creole, Mennonites, etc. Maya Mountains, south-west to the Shipstern Nature Reserve, northeast, Belize is a land of lush jungles. Not to mention its ancient ruins, relics of the time when the territory was part of the Mayan Empire. As for the beaches, there are vast stretches of white sand lined with an azure sea dotted with islands of all sizes. How can you resist?

Here is a guide specially written by Lonely Planet writers for those who wish to venture in Belize destination off the beaten track.
